Overview

AI Call ("we", "our", or "us") is a real-time phone call translation app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.

By using AI Call, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app.

Data We Collect

Audio data

AI Call processes audio from your phone calls to provide real-time translation. Call audio is processed in real time and is not stored permanently on our servers after the call ends unless you explicitly save a transcript.

Voice biometric data (optional)

When you use our AI voice clone feature, we generate and store a mathematical representation of your voice (a "voiceprint") so the app can deliver translated speech in your own voice. Voiceprints are biometric data and are treated separately from regular call audio. See Voice & Biometric Data for details on how we use, retain, and delete this data, and how to disable voice clone.

Account information

If you create an account, we collect your email address and a display name. You may also sign in using Apple or Google, in which case we receive only the information you authorize those services to share.

Usage data

We collect anonymized data about how the app is used — such as language pairs selected, call duration, and feature interactions — to improve the service. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.

Device information

We collect basic device identifiers (operating system version, device model, app version) for crash reporting and compatibility purposes.

Payment information

If you purchase a subscription, payments are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We do not store your payment card details.

Voice & Biometric Data

AI Call's AI voice clone feature lets the app deliver translated speech in your own voice instead of a generic text-to-speech voice. To do this, we create a voiceprint — a mathematical representation of your voice — which is considered biometric information under laws including the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act ("BIPA"), the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"), and the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended ("CCPA/CPRA").

This section is our written biometric data policy and applies to every voiceprint we collect, store, or use.

Voice clone is optional

You can use AI Call's translation features fully without using voice clone. We only generate a voiceprint when you choose to use the AI voice clone feature.

By enabling the voice clone feature, you consent to the collection, storage, and limited use of your voiceprint as described in this section. We encourage you to review this section in full before using voice clone.

You may not use voice clone with a voice that is not your own. Cloning another person's voice without their permission is prohibited under our Terms of Service.

How your voiceprint is used

Voiceprints are used only to synthesize translated speech in your voice during AI Call sessions you initiate. We do not:

  • Use voiceprints to identify you, profile you, or verify your identity outside the app.
  • Use voiceprints to train general-purpose AI models, foundation models, or third-party voice libraries.
  • Sell, lease, license, trade, rent, or otherwise profit from voiceprints in any way.
  • Share voiceprints with advertisers, data brokers, or law enforcement except where strictly required by valid legal process and disclosed in Data Sharing.

How your voiceprint is stored

Voiceprints are encrypted at rest using AES-256 and in transit using TLS 1.3, and are stored separately from your account profile and call transcripts. Access is limited to the minimum number of engineering personnel needed to operate the feature, and every access is logged.

Retention schedule

We retain your voiceprint only for as long as needed to provide the voice clone feature, on the following schedule:

  • While your account is active and voice clone is enabled: retained.
  • If you turn off voice clone: deleted within 30 days.
  • If you do not use voice clone for 12 consecutive months: automatically deleted.
  • If you delete your account: deleted within 30 days, alongside the rest of your account data.
  • Maximum retention regardless of activity: 3 years from the date your voiceprint was first generated, after which it is deleted and a new voiceprint is generated the next time you use the feature.

Once a voiceprint is scheduled for deletion, it is permanently destroyed from primary storage and from backups within 90 days. Aggregated, non-identifying performance metrics about the voice clone feature (for example, average synthesis latency) may be retained, but these contain no biometric data.

Your control

You can delete your voiceprint at any time from Settings → Voice clone → Delete my voice in the app, or by emailing support@shaling.ai. Deleting your voiceprint disables voice clone but does not affect your account, transcripts, or subscription. You can also withdraw your consent to voice clone at any time, which has the same effect as deletion.

Disclosure of AI-generated voice to call recipients

When you use voice clone on a call, the people you speak with are hearing AI-synthesized speech that has been generated from your voiceprint. To stay aligned with the EU AI Act (Article 50), California SB 1001, and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's guidance on impersonation, AI Call provides an in-call indicator and may provide a spoken or visual notice where technically feasible. You agree not to disable, obscure, or work around this disclosure.

Region-specific notices

Illinois residents (BIPA). By enabling voice clone you consent to the collection, storage, and limited use of your voiceprint as described in this section. We will not sell, lease, trade, or otherwise profit from your voiceprint. We will permanently destroy your voiceprint when the initial purpose for collecting it has been satisfied, or within the retention windows above, whichever comes first.

EEA / UK residents (GDPR). A voiceprint is treated as a special category of personal data. We rely on your consent — given by enabling the voice clone feature — as the basis for processing. You may withdraw your consent at any time by disabling voice clone or deleting your voiceprint, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA). A voiceprint is "sensitive personal information." You have the right to limit our use of sensitive personal information; because we already restrict voiceprint use to providing the feature itself, no separate limitation request is required, but you can still delete your voiceprint at any time as described above.

Eligibility

The voice clone feature is available only to users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly create voiceprints for minors. If we learn we have collected a voiceprint from someone under 18, we will delete it promptly.

How We Use Your Data

  • Provide and improve the real-time translation service
  • Generate translated speech in your own voice if you have opted in to AI voice clone (see Voice & Biometric Data)
  • Detect and fix bugs and performance issues
  • Send important service updates and security notices
  • Personalize language preferences and call settings
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use call audio or voiceprints to train general-purpose AI models.

Data Sharing

We share data only in the following limited circumstances:

Service providers

We work with trusted third-party providers for cloud infrastructure, translation APIs, and analytics. These providers are bound by strict data processing agreements and cannot use your data for their own purposes.

Legal requirements

We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of AI Call, our users, or the public.

Business transfers

If AI Call is acquired or merged with another company, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Call audio is discarded immediately after processing. Saved transcripts (if you opt in) are retained until you delete them.

Voiceprints generated for the AI voice clone feature follow a separate, stricter retention schedule described in Voice & Biometric Data.

You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at support@shaling.ai.

Security

We use industry-standard encryption (TLS 1.3) for all data in transit. Data at rest is encrypted using AES-256. Our infrastructure is hosted on SOC 2-compliant cloud providers.

While we take security seriously, no system is completely impenetrable. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

All users

  • Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
  • Correction — update inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Deletion — request deletion of your account and data
  • Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Voiceprint deletion & consent withdrawal — delete your voiceprint or withdraw your voice clone consent at any time, as described in Voice & Biometric Data

EEA / UK residents (GDPR)

You have additional rights under GDPR including the right to restrict processing, the right to object, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

California residents (CCPA)

You have the right to know what personal information is collected, to opt out of the "sale" of personal information (we do not sell your data), and to non-discrimination for exercising your rights.

Children's Privacy

AI Call is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The AI voice clone feature is further restricted to users who are 18 years of age or older. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information or used voice clone, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will provide a more prominent notice through the app or via email.

We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information.
